This Week's Top News Stories on YouTube--Famine in Somalia, Huge haboob in Arizona, and the end of an era for NASA's Space Shuttle program.
Everyday on the CitizenTube Channel (and @CitizenTube on Twitter), along with our curation partners @storyful, we look at how the top news stories are covered on YouTube. Every week we'll post a weekly recap of the top news stories of the week:
- We witnessed the UN declare famine in the Horn of Africa from a devastating drought affecting millions of people.
- We saw a Syrian funeral turn deadly when government troops began firing at a large crowd of mourners in the embattled city of Homs.
- We watched Rupert Murdoch eat humble pie as he faced Britain's parliamentarians with his son James as the News of the World phone-hacking saga continued.
- We followed Jon Huntsman stumping from his Harley, Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann getting animated, and a frustrated Gary Johnson this week on the US campaign trail.
- We gazed in awe as Arizona was engulfed by a huge haboob (dust storm) that turned day into night for the second time in as many weeks.
- We wished one of the most important world leaders of our time, Nelson Mandela, a very happy ninety-third birthday along with U2 and the rest of the world.
- And finally, we reflected on thirty years of NASA Space Shuttle flights while we watched the end of an era with Atlantis' final voyage.
