Fort Hood Citizen Reacts to Shooting

Citizens from across the country are reacting to the recent shooting at Ft. Hood military base, where it has been reported that 12 were killed and 31 wounded. User americalatina07, a Fort Hood resident, just posted her first YouTube video ever because her house in under lock down and she has no way to communicate with the outside world. She also mentions that YouTube and Twitter are her only sources of information, as she doesn't own a television. Watch her account of what's happening here:

For more citizen reaction videos from around the country, see this playlist, which we'll be updating:

Our administration has been ignoring the tremendous need for mental health services across the U.S. including in the armed forces. I am not surprised at this incident, nor would I be surprised at other ones to come. We are a society in transition with many stressors that affect individual's and communities' functioning. It was declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) that depression, stress, suicide, and homicide along with other psychologically induced physical illnesses are rampant throughout the world. But, who is paying attention?

MY HEART, THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO FOR ALL THE FAMILIES INVOLVED DURING THIS TERRIBLE TIME IN FORT HOOD. HOW COULD SOMEONE DO THIS TERRIBLE AND YET VERY SHOCKING THING WITH NO ONE KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT WAS GOING ON?? SOMEONE SHOULD OF SEEN SOME SORT OF SIGN SOMEWHERE, AND YET IF THEY DID NO ONE SAID A WORD! WHY? WHY IS THE ONLY QUESTION I HAVE??

I find it a little hard to explain this away as PTSD since the person in question was a psychiatrist and, as far as I know, had not been deployed to Iraq before. And there were two others involved? Doesn't sound like PTSD to me...

PTSD my foot. He has never been in combat. He's been in the military since R.O.T.C., went to med. school, and now it's time for him to pay up for that million dollar education, and he now has a change of heart. You mean he has been in the military since he was 18, and he's just having to go over. Oh, if my son had been so lucky.

How sad that the young woman took her video down. My daughter was on lockdown in the food court while this was taking place. She was calling me periodically to let me know what was going on. My son was out on the range. I did not hear from him until later that night. His phone had gone dead.

My sympathies go to the families of the deceased. My thoughts are with the injured as they recover and everyone at Fort Hood. Both of my children have been there for several years. I am still in shock that this has happened.

My nephew is in his early twenties, he is the same age as my son. He has served his country and served our world for part of his teens years and into his early twenties.

My family has every branch of the service represented except air force for over four decades. The females in my family serve our country by supporting our men, spending a great deal of time alone raising children, in an insane world.

My family has been to more than one funeral. We want our world to be safe! We want our families to be safe! We want our children to be safe! My heart aches for the families of Fort Hood. God bless your souls richly and deepy.

He will provide for you and comfort you in your times of deepest sorrow and most passionate anger. I spit on people who disrespect our people. I spit on people who kill our innocent and those trying to protect them. I am proud to be an American!
